Yummy Pedas...

With time they tend to dry out and then cracks appear while rolling - as you can see in my photos :D Grease your hands with butter or ghee from time to time so that it is easy to roll and also grease the plate on which you place them. Keep stirring on a low flame till the whole mixture starts leaving off the sides of the pan and becomes doughy. So here comes this amazingly simple recipe that I found while browsing for quick recipes on pedas. Always cook on very low flame as you do not want to burn the mixture or dry it completely. Leave it out for sometime as the pedas will harden with time. Usually soft and chewy, it is made from dried whole milk and sugar. Try and roll the pedas while they are still warm. Grease you hands and roll them into shapes of your choice. Add the milk powder and stir quickly to combine everything well making sure there are no lumps. When you can roll the mixture it is ready. Traditionally, they are made by boiling milk for hours and reducing it to get to the chewy consistency which is called khoa. And I must say they are absolutely as delicious as the traditional pedas :) a smooth mixture.

Can a 8 month old drink NIDO??!!!!?

I have a 8 month old daughter, well 9 now lol she turns 9 tomorrow. i boight her a Nido milk but it says its only for 1 yrs and over. Do u think i should continue giving her or is it bad? I just bought it today. Shes been drinking Enfamil formula, but i wanted to try Nidos. has anymone given there baby this type of milk? If so how did your baby react to it? Thanks for your time :) i really appreciate it.

No an 8 month old shouldn't drink NIDO, but then neither should anyone else. It is garbage and just a marketing gimmick from Nestles to try to sell inferior products to mothers. At 12 months you can transition her to whole milk.

No idea what Nido is, but if it says 1 year, what is confusing you?!!?!??!!
Carnation | Nov 23, 2012
Why didn't you read the tin before buying it? Stick with the Enfamil formula until she is one. There is a reason for putting a minimum age on baby milks.
Ellen | Nov 23, 2012
Babies under a year old need breastmilk or formula. Wait another 4 months for NIDO, as the label suggests.

do you use regular powdered milk to for your toddler?

I find toddle formula better than regular milk because I can prepare it fresh when Im ready to give it to my son or on the go. I normally buy the Nido toddler formula by Nestle. but each can costs about $17. I was wondering if the regular powdered milk is kind of the same? http://www.nestle.com/Brands/Pages/Brand sDetail.aspx?brandguid=EEF81817-2E64-4FC 8-8A0F-04A96C3A3D21&BrandName=Nido

REAL milk does not come in a powdered form. It takes a lot of processing and who knows what to get it into a powdered form, then come all the added chemicals to make up the nutrition. Why would you do that to your child if you don't need to? And since when is "regular milk" not "fresh" while toddler formula is? You've seen the best before date on formula, right? So you know it can sit around for several months. You call that "fresh?" Besides, toddlers don't need milk every second of every day. If you're going out, he'll be fine with water until you sit down for a meal and can buy him a single-serving carton of milk if you think he HAS to have milk. At home, he can have fresh milk from the fridge any time he wants to. He doesn't need a concoction of chemicals added to water on a regular basis when there is milk available.

Ethel | Aug 18, 2012
Nope, whole milk or boob juice. Regular powered milk is not the same, the toddler needs fat for brain growth (50% of caloric intake for under 2s should be from fat).
gazeygoo | Aug 18, 2012
Powdered milk has no fat and shouldn't be given to children. Real milk is fresh and ready to serve. Give him the real deal.
TeamSwift13 | Aug 18, 2012
Idk if this helps, but when my mother was younger her family didn't have a lot of money so they couldn't afford milk. So they bought powdered milk and she drank that all the time when she was little. Now she can't have regular milk or her stomach hurts so bad. Its to thick for her stomach I think?
cathrl69 | Aug 18, 2012
Buy ordinary milk and pour it out of the bottle when he wants to drink it. Your toddler does not need milk "on the go". Take him a sippy cup of water, if there aren't going to be drinks available where you're going.
Serenity Now | Aug 18, 2012
No. Never. Processed food is never as good as whole food. Whole, fresh milk is the healthiest option for a toddler, with the exception of breast milk. And it's ridiculous to pay 17$ for a can of processed milk.
pregnant with baby #2 | Aug 18, 2012
Nido milk is great. If you have money to buy this milk then keep going for sure it taste better than regular 3% of milk my daughter was 12 months old when start it to drink 3% regular cow milk and that what is until now.She is now healthy big 5 year old girl

About this book
Arguing that corporations are mainly responsible for the expansion of the damaging industrial food system, this discussion focuses on these organizations and the ways they organize and control food production and distribution. Demonstrating how the corporate food system destroys those systems based on local markets, local cultures, and biodiversity, this account highlights how it puts the profits of the few before the needs of people and leads to massive food safety incidents, environmental destruction, labor exploitation, and the decimation of rural communities. Informative and direct, this book aims to inspire individuals to actively take the food system back from corporations and put it in the hands of people.

Great for milk and for making yogurt!

I make my daughter's yogurt since the only whole fat yogurt available in stores where we live is Stonyfield's, and they're almost $1/cup. The recipe uses 3c. whole milk and a cup of dry milk, which sent me on a search for a dry milk that was more nutricious than the plain old nonfat dry milk that most places carry. Nestle Nido Kinder was my answer: I like that it's fortified with so many nutrients that growing kids need, fiber was a huge plus since my daughter sometimes has regularity problems, essential fatty acids, and the taste is really good. My daughter also likes it mixed as a drink as well, and since it taste slightly different than regular milk, it's a nice change every once in awhile. I compared this to toddler formulas that are out there, and this has just as much nutrients for more than half the price (with S&S discount 30.7cents/oz. and Similac Go&Grow toddler formula is 76cents/oz. on Amazon). I've also purchased Walmart's version of Pediasure before I discovered Nestle... 3/5 Joanna E. Moreland "Loves-a-Bargain Mom" (Ohio) - See all my reviews, September 18, 2010

This stuff should be marketed to adults, too!

I recently received a free sample of Nido 1+. I'm not sure why (I don't even have kids), especially as the packaging was all in Spanish. However, I have purchased powdered milk from time to time over the years and I was curious about the taste of this Nestle product. Wow! Other than being slightly (but not overpoweringly) sweet, this tastes closer to fresh whole milk than any other powdered product I have ever tried -- and I've tried a lot of them. And it tastes GOOD. In fact, on the basis of taste alone I would prefer drinking a glass of this to regular whole or low-fat milk. That's something I thought I'd never say.I've tried it on cereal and oatmeal and again, it's better than the real thing. But the really big news for me is that it's also excellent in coffee. I'm a stickler for having real milk in my coffee and will only use that powdered non-dairy stuff when I'm desperate for a caffeine fix and there's no alternative. This stuff can go into your java in either mixed... 5/5 Marcus Andrews - See all my reviews This review is from: Nestle NIDO Kinder 1+ Powdered Milk Beverage, 3.52 lb. 0 5/5 LDS (Corning, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Nestle Nido Instant Milk Powder Fortified, 12.7-Ounce Tins (Pack of 4) (Grocery) I have been using Nido for several months now. I wanted a powdered milk that would dissolve nicely in cold water and this one does it perfectly. I bought it originally for baking, but it has become so popular in my household that I don't even bother to buy milk or half and half anymore. Great to drink alone or in your coffee and makes a tasty hot chocolate mix, better than any of those on the market today. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 8, 2009

Good taste, good mixability, good value in general, just be careful with humidity

I bought these four small cans because usually powdered milk can be very sensible to humidity. There are other choices, like a huge 4 pounds can, and in the end that can be cheaper. However, I prefer to pay a little bit higher and can 4 small cans, its convenient ... unless you have 5 children.Well going to the product: this is is powdered milk made un Mexico. The taste is really good, for sure much better than any 2% fat milk that you can buy in the supermarket. How does it compare to the taste of 4% fat fresh milk (say for instance Horizon, Or Archer farms)? Well I say that the flavor is the same, parhaps the powdered milk has even better taste since it feels a little bit creamier. However, you have to understand that how creamier it feels dependend on respecting the suggested proportion (4 tablespoons per 236 cubic centimeters). For me the taste is GREAT. Also the preparation is really good, my recomendation is to buy some Shaking glass or use and Hydratation... 5/5 High standards user - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Nestle Nido Milk Powder, Imported, (400 gm), 14.1-Ounce Cans (Pack of 3) (Grocery) I started buying this product when the price of powdered milk at the grocery store went up and it tasted terrible. I used the powdered milk in my homemade bread and sometimes the granules wouldn't dissolve. Nido is a fine powder and dissolves instantly. It works great in bread and other baking, plus it works great as an instant milk for regular drinking. I also like the fact that now the Nido from Holland is available. I use to buy the Nido from Mexico in my local supermarket, but it has not been available for almost a year now. If you don't like powdered milk, try this one, I think you will be impressed. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 2, 2009

MUCH better than low-fat dried milk!

This is a review from Marc's wife: I have throughly tested this Product.Order this exact one: Nestle Nido makes a confusing array of products with similar names and labels! Con:Taste not IDENTICAL to whole milk! Pro:Dissolves easily, smells good. -Tried this as creamer in tea with sugar-a person used to whole milk in his tea thought it tasted fine. -in cooking- tried it in my favorite pancake recipe-no perceived difference. -tried using it as substitute for milk in a couple of sauces: no complaints from anyone, I thought it tasted slighty low-fat. Certainly in a cheese or other highly flavored sauce should be fine. -substituted for half the non-fat dried milk in our instant hot cholate mix recipe. Everyone raved about the flavor! I noticed our mix wasn't being used up at the same phenomenal clip as people professed themselves more satisfied.- Perfect for single people who want small amounts of milk, mostly for creamer in hot... 5/5 Marc Vunkannon (Wading River, NY United States) - See all my reviews, March 24, 2011
